A marble moorti can last for centuries if cared for properly. The Taj Mahal is proof — built from the same Makrana marble, it still shines after 400 years. With simple routine care, your marble moorti will remain pristine and beautiful for generations. Here is our complete care guide from our master craftsmen.
Daily Care — Dusting
Dust your marble moorti daily with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a clean feather duster. Never use rough cloths, synthetic sponges or abrasive materials — these create fine scratches on the marble surface over time. Gentle dusting keeps the marble's natural shine intact and prevents dust from settling into the carved details.
Weekly Cleaning — Water and Mild Soap
For weekly cleaning, use lukewarm water with a few drops of mild liquid soap (like dish soap). Dip a soft cloth, wring it well so it is barely damp, and gently wipe the surface. Never pour water directly onto the moorti. After wiping, immediately dry with a clean soft cloth. Do not leave marble wet — moisture can cause staining over time.
What to Avoid Completely
Never use vinegar, lemon juice, or any acidic cleaner on marble — acid permanently etches the surface and creates dull spots. Avoid bleach, ammonia-based cleaners, and harsh chemical sprays. Do not use steel wool or scrubbing pads. Avoid placing marble moorti directly in water bowls for abhishek without proper drainage, as prolonged water contact can affect the base.
Removing Stains from Marble Moorti
For oil stains from lamp or ghee, apply a small amount of baking soda paste (baking soda mixed with water) gently on the stain, leave for 15 minutes, and wipe off with a damp cloth. For incense smoke stains, a soft cloth with mild soap works well. For stubborn stains, contact us — we offer restoration polishing for your moorti.
Long-Term Protection
Apply a thin coat of colourless marble sealer or beeswax polish once every year to protect the surface from moisture and staining. Store marble moorti away from direct sunlight for extended periods as UV exposure can slightly yellow the surface over many years. If the moorti develops fine scratches or dulling, professional polishing by a marble expert can restore it to its original shine.
