One of the most profound services we offer is carving a lifelike marble moorti of a person from their photograph. Whether it is a revered guru, a beloved ancestor, a family patriarch, or a spiritual master — we capture their face, presence and dignity in pure marble that will be honoured for generations.
Who Orders Custom Guru Moorti?
Spiritual organisations and ashrams commission marble guru moorti to honour their founding saints and teachers. Families order ancestor moorti to preserve the memory of a grandfather or great-grandmother with honour. Institutions and trusts create marble busts of founders and patrons. Individuals also commission personal spiritual guides and saints who have been significant in their lives.
What Photographs Work Best?
A clear, front-facing photograph works best. Multiple photos from different angles — front, slight left, slight right — give our sculptors the most reference. Even a single good photograph is sufficient for our master artisans. Old photos, black and white photos, and even low-resolution images can work if facial features are visible. The more reference we have, the more accurate the likeness.
The Carving Process
Our master sculptor studies the photographs carefully, noting the precise proportions of the face — the forehead, nose bridge, cheekbones, chin and jaw. A detailed sketch is prepared and shared with you for approval before any marble is touched. Once approved, the sculpting begins — first the rough form, then progressively finer detail work on the face, eyes, and expression. The eyes are the most important and most carefully carved feature.
Sizes and Materials
We carve custom guru moorti in sizes from a dignified 12-inch bust to a full life-size 5-foot standing statue. For skin tone and realism, Makrana white marble gives a timeless, sacred appearance. Vietnam white marble is also excellent. For a particular community's tradition, Bheslana black marble busts are also crafted. The base, pedestal and inscription lettering can all be customised.
Timeline and Delivery
A 12 to 18-inch guru moorti typically takes 30 to 45 days. Larger pieces — 24 inches and above — take 45 to 90 days depending on complexity. We send you detailed photos at three stages during the carving process so you can give feedback before the piece is finished. Safe delivery is arranged in custom wooden crates anywhere in India or worldwide.
